Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire a private college consultant when my child's high school has a guidance counselor?
As a private college consultant, I can offer exactly that: a unique, highly individualized approach that ensures your child receives the attention and guidance they need to succeed. By working with a limited caseload of no more than five seniors each year, I can dedicate the time and energy necessary to make sure your student’s applications are an accurate reflection of who they are and what they have to offer their respective college community.
As a former high school college counselor, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges students and families face when counselors are overwhelmed with unreasonably high caseloads—often managing more than 300 students at a time. In my previous role, I was personally responsible for 120-150 students each cycle, which meant I couldn't offer the in-depth, personalized attention each student truly deserves.
This means your family doesn’t have to worry about your child falling through the cracks or being lost in a sea of students. You can be hands-off, knowing that I am working closely with your child to ensure they are presenting themselves in the best possible light. From crafting their personal narrative to fine-tuning application essays, I’m here to alleviate the stress and ensure they are taking the right steps toward the best-fit colleges.
When you opt for any package with a writing component, I provide the highest level of service by having two readers review your child’s materials, offering feedback to refine their essays and applications. In the 2025-2026 school year, I am only working with 12 seniors so your child will have unparalleled, high-quality attention.
With my hands-on, tailored approach, you can rest easy knowing that your family is fully supported throughout the admissions process. Let me take the stress off your shoulders so you can focus on what matters most—creating memories and preparing your child for their next chapter.
When is the best time to start working with you?
The earlier you start, the better positioned your child will be for success. That’s why many families choose to begin working with me as early as the spring of their child’s 8th grade year or when they’re selecting high school courses. By starting early, we can develop a strategic plan that sets your child on the right path for college admissions. We help guide course selection, extracurricular involvement, standardized testing, and exploration of their unique interests—key components for standing out in the competitive college admissions process. Most importantly, we start identifying what makes your child unique and how to leverage those qualities to their advantage.
For families who start later, our most popular package, the Owl Package, provides expert guidance from the summer after your child’s sophomore year through senior year. The college admissions process can be overwhelming, and starting with a well-crafted strategy in place can make all the difference.
By working with me early, your child will be able to cultivate enriching summer experiences, explore their passions, and develop a clear path to their future—all while ensuring they are building a strong and cohesive application. Let’s build a relationship and a strategy that will set your family up for success throughout the admissions journey. Reach out now to get started early and ensure your child is fully prepared to thrive in the college admissions process.
